A young tradition, an ancient plant

How it is made (in brief)

There are two main families of mirto: red (from berries) and white (from leaves and green berries, or leaves only).

Red mirto

Ripe berries picked between November and January, washed and set to infuse.

Alcol buongusto 95°, infusione di 30-40 giorni.

Filtering, addition of sugar syrup (about 30% sugar).

Resting in glass for at least another 30 to 60 days before drinking.

White mirto

The taste and how it is served

Mirto should be served ice-cold, straight from the freezer, in small liqueur glasses. At that temperature the alcohol softens and the aroma emerges cleanly. A good red mirto has notes of blueberry, eucalyptus, juniper and sweet spices; un buon mirto bianco è più fresco, balsamico, quasi agrumato.

How to recognise a good mirto

Colour: a deep dark red but transparent (never cloudy or orange).

Nose: intense maquis aromas, not just alcohol.

Artisanal: in many agriturismi and Sardinian wineries you will find local productions often better than the industrial ones.

Cormoran Resort Villasimius

Discover our seasonal offers

See the offers

From berry to glass: how myrtle liqueur is made and why, within a century, it became the alcoholic symbol of Sardinia.

[27
45,32,47
post-1134","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-profumi-macchia","tag-cucina-sarda","tag-sardegna","tag-tradizioni
["GET
